Tackling the walls of a teenage room

It should be a cool teenage room. You might think 'they are busy with a teenage room every year'. And I can tell you… that's right. I have to admit that we have been making changes to Lotte's bedroom for years in a row. Of course that also has to do with the move and other big projects, but now we have finally started working on the walls in her teenage room.

Tips for teenage-room walls for a girl

She would like a more 'adult' room this time and I totally get that. When we moved here last year, we quickly decorated her girls bedroom with what we already had, and a new bed. The child's bed (however nice) was passé, because she really wanted a bed just as big as her brother. So a doubter. Unfortunately, there was no room for this in our previous house, but now there is, so we arranged that immediately.

However, nothing had been painted yet, so time for a makeover. By the way, I'm not finished yet, because during the demolition of a paneling to wallpaper a wall, the entire plaster came off the wall. So now I first have to repair the wall (if I succeed) and only then can I wallpaper. But the start has been made, namely with paint on the walls.

The wish for a green-yellow room was clear, but what color do you put on the wall and how can you make that fun in a playful way? I'll give you some inspiration that I came across when I was looking for fun ways to paint the walls of the teen room myself. Not straight forward, but slightly different.

Circles are in. You can apply them with paint, but also by choosing wall decoration in the form of plates, paintings or posters. You can do that above the mattress as you see below, but of course also in another place in your teenager's bedroom.

Tip:If you are looking for a budget-friendly way, get started with paint and use color testers! They don't cost much and especially if you only need a little bit, that's very handy!

Work with a cool wallpaper in the teen room

Would you rather wallpaper, or just brighten up one wall with separate wallpaper like we are going to do? Then choose a nice striking wallpaper against the wall behind, for example, your teenager's desk (or dressing table).

It may be a bit crowded, but I can imagine some girls going crazy if you wallpaper the walls in the teen room this way. I actually think it's beautiful too!

You can also paint yourself, haha. It takes a while, but if you don't like wallpapering, you can still make a nice motif yourself with some paint! Actually I think now… maybe I should have left that paneling, not wallpaper but just put this motif on the wall myself! Would have been fun and a lot easier, hahaha.

Accessories on the walls in the teen room

Accessories make the man. Or woman in this case (well… girl). The accessories below will make every girl happy! A few posters on the wall in the teen's room and those beautiful lights to hang up, that's always a good thing.

A nice Pegboard or just an iron frame for the photos is always great too!

We ourselves have worked with some plant vases on the wall so that we can also put some greenery in her room. I bought them through Amazon.

Paint walls in triangle

Back to the paint again. If you don't like circles, you can of course also paint the walls in a triangle. In the first photo you can see that we also did that in Lotte's teenage room. What makes it difficult for us is that the paneling also has to be painted according to color in the same line. Wall paint and wood paint are of course not the same, so the question is whether you get a suitable color. We think it was a good success. What do you think? I was in doubt about the color between Early Dew or trend color Tranquil Dawn, it ended up being the first.

Below are some more triangles on walls, all in their own way. Get inspired!

You can of course also make triangles on the wall in the teenage room. Use good adhesive tape to paint this nice and tight.

And of course it doesn't have to stay with one wall, or one color, or one triangle 😉
