Ever heard of musical.ly? The number one music app of our top 6!

Music. I love it! And not just me, our home is eagerly used by many music apps. Music is important to us and can be heard a lot. The radio is always on here. Boyfriend plays a number of instruments, our son has smooth dance skills and our girl is not without merit. And I, I wish I only had some of their musicianship.

Music was my first love

I will be honest with you. In my younger years I often sang in bars. Microphone in one hand, a beer in the other. Together with a few friends we sang the stars from heaven. Well, that's what we thought. The next day, completely sober again, the realization came:I don't have a great voice, just like a sense of pitch….

We had one big luck on our side:there were no smartphones yet. In fact, when I was young, we didn't have cell phones at all. Fortunately, there are no recordings of these pub performances. And believe me, that's better for everyone!

Youth sentiment

But even though I can't sing or dance well, I really enjoy doing it. We used to. Then we stood in front of the mirror with six friends, lip-syncing the Dolly Dots. I always wanted to be Anita, but because of my dark hair I always "had to" be Esther or Patty. After we were done discussing who was which Dot, we went wild. A brush served as a microphone and let's sing! We didn't know what we were singing. That didn't matter. We had the greatest fun.

That is different today. My ten-year-old also playbacks. But not in front of the mirror. Not at all. Those girls are holding a smartphone in front of them. Everything is recorded and thrown on the web. And this worldwide web sometimes finds this mother exciting. Do you also want to know what your child posts on the internet?

6x a music app for teenagers

Time to delve into some musical apps that are fun for teens. Together with my daughter I have tried a number of them and some are now in full use. Below you will find our six favorites.

  1. Musical.ly

musical what? Yes, Musical.ly is a popular music app mainly used by the young girls. It is an app where you record your playback act with your smartphone and share it with the rest of the world (read:followers). This app is number 1. In one hand the smartphone, preferably with a pop socket, and with the other hand you portray the sung words, as it were. You make a mini-musical, as it were.

  1. Funimate

Just like with Musical.ly, you can record videos with music. The difference compared to Musical.ly  is mainly in the various fun effects that you can add to this music app, even to existing videos from your own library. These recordings are easy to share via, for example, Musical.ly or Instagram, but also on a Funimate account.

  1. Sing! Karaoke

This is a really fun karaoke app where you can capture yourself on video while you sing. The lyrics are displayed on the screen, which is very handy. But this is not the only thing, if a girlfriend sings and records the same song, you can just sing a digital duet with each other. Cool! The disadvantage for the younger children is that it is all in English, but on the other hand, this also promotes their English language. So if they want to learn to speak English, this music app is an advantage. They also have (English) children's songs in their repertoire. I secretly tried this app myself and it is really hilarious, but in my case not suitable for sharing 😉 .

  1. Flipagram

With this music app, family of Instagram, you can make videos from photos or videos from your own photo gallery. You can add anything yourself. Music of your choice in the background, nice filters and nice effects. If you like your video, you can share it on social media, for example. This app is not only fun for teenagers, but also a must-have for moms.

Rules

Note: The above apps are all a kind of social network where you can follow others and also be followed yourself. The kids often love to get a lot of "likes" on their videos and because of this they often also accept strangers as followers. Explain that they should not accept every friend request and how important safe internet is!

So even if you have created a private account for your child, I recommend that you discuss beforehand what you like and what you don't like. For example, we have agreed that our children are neatly dressed in the videos, do not mention an address and do not bully anyone. I know, I sound a lot like my own mother now, but by explaining why, I still gain understanding and more importantly:awareness.

Finally, I would like to mention two more apps. You simply want these apps as a teenager. And as a mother of a teenager too!

  1. Spotify

This app, with which you can listen to music on your smartphone or tablet, is indispensable for everyone in my opinion. Young and old. Many of you undoubtedly already know him. You can stream (play) the music you want from a database containing millions of songs. Here you can always listen to your favorite music and sing along, without having to share your singing skills.

  1. Shazam

Ideal for when you hear a nice song somewhere, and you don't know which song or which artist it is. This app listens to the music in the background and scans in a kind of library which song it is. This way you quickly know which song it is and you can stream it again via Spotify. This app is so nice, because nothing is more annoying if you don't know what tune is in your head 😉 .

I can totally understand that the kids like these apps. In any case, I was amazed at the many possibilities and was confirmed that I really should leave singing in public to others 😉 .
