A team of scientists from the University of Aberdeen, located in the United Kingdom, have just asserted that in the face of the grief of a heartbreak, even time would have no effect. According to them, the “broken heart syndrome” (literally broken heart syndrome) would leave scars that time never erases. To reach this conclusion, the researchers analyzed a group of 52 people aged 28 to 87 and all suffering from Tako-Tsubo disease (TTS), commonly known as “broken heart syndrome”. A rare phenomenon that occurs as a result of significant psychological trauma. Discovered by a Japanese researcher in the 90s, Tako-Tsubo disease is characterized by a failure of the heart to pump blood properly.
Published by the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography (JASE), the study claims that the heart would never function the same way again after being affected by this disease. Worse, certain muscular parts of the heart would be replaced by tiny scars… “Previously, it was thought that people who suffered from Tako-Tsubo disease could recover completely without any medical intervention. Thanks to this study, we show that the disease has lasting negative effects on the heart,” says Dana Dawson, the doctor in charge of the study.
