A meeting can change a life, even when it occurs in the worst circumstances. In January 2012, a young American from Clearwater, Florida, is between life and death after her husband stabbed her 32 times in the face, arms, neck and shoulders. Melissa Dohme is taken care of by the emergency services where Cameron Hill, a paramedic who resuscitates her on several occasions, works. The young woman miraculously comes out of it, and meets her savior two months later during a lunch. And the unexpected happens:the two fall in love with each other and formalize their relationship at the end of 2012. The love story then turns into a fairy tale when, on May 11, 2015, the young man asks for his girlfriend's hand in front of a packed baseball stadium.
After her traumatic experience, Melissa Dohme became involved in the fight against domestic violence. While she was attending a baseball game as a representative of an association, her dearest loved one burst onto the field and handed her a ball that read "Will you marry me?" ". Obviously, the pretty blonde said yes! The ceremony was held in Florida on March 4, 2017, attended by 200 family members and friends. Even more symbolically, 6 people who helped save Melissa's life – firefighters, paramedics and doctors – were also present. The bride, who had just undergone the last facial reconstruction operation, paid tribute to the one without whom she would probably not be alive anymore with a garter on which was embroidered “It is thanks to him if my heart beats” .
“I wouldn’t relive my assault for the world, but I wouldn’t trade the life I lead today. […] It made me the strong woman I am now […] I know that God has saved me tonight so that I can become the voice of those who suffer in silence, and of those who will no longer have never the opportunity to express themselves. I was able to meet Cameron, it was fate that brought us together “, she explains to the site Good Housekeeping . And to add:“It is possible to live and love after violence ". A lovely story that gives hope!
