Lasting love stories are always inspiring, but when they are also about a princely couple, the fairy tale is complete. And it's not just Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton who live in cloudless happiness, Japanese Princess Mako of Akishino is also in love, and she has proven it in the best way. The 25-year-old young woman, granddaughter of the current Emperor Akihito, is about to get engaged to Kei Komuro, a student she met about 5 years ago at the International Christian University in Tokyo. A nice story as there are many, therefore, but there is a small problem:the young man is not of noble birth and works as an employee in a law firm.
For centuries, Japanese imperial laws have been very clear:they require that a princess wishing to marry a commoner leaves the imperial family. And that does not seem to have been a constraint for Mako d'Akishino who has indeed decided to give up her title of princess in view of her future marriage with the man of her life, as reported by CNN> . That is a woman of character! The princess – who will soon no longer be one, therefore – thus follows in the footsteps of her aunt Sayako, the emperor's only daughter, stripped of her status in 2005 after her union with Yoshiki Kuroda, an urban planner. The family still has 6 unmarried girls who will be subject to the same rule if they choose men who are not of royal blood, but not enough to jeopardize the title of emperor which only a man can claim.
