Whether you just want to save money or just don't have any extra money at your disposal:you don't have to let Valentine's Day pass unnoticed. With the tips below you can spoil your Valentine without having to spend extra money.
Valentine's Day is also known as the day of love. A day where couples spoil each other with nice presents and reflect on the love for each other. Of course, it is also mainly a commercial day where large and small shops benefit. Not surprising:nobody wants to be left behind and you certainly don't want to arrive empty-handed at your loved one on February 14th.
Incidentally, it used to be a day to surprise and spoil your secret love. Did you have someone in mind, but they didn't know about it yet? Then you could bring an anonymous bouquet of flowers or write a love letter with the signature:your secret admirer. Somehow it is a pity that this has been lost over the years, because the mystery surrounding it did have its charms. Although I must confess that I have never had a secret surprise for Valentine's Day (tip for companies?).
Do you not want to participate in the commercial and still want to surprise your partner? Do you simply have no money for some reason? Even then, there are plenty of fun ways to surprise your lover on February 14th.
A well-known saying goes:love goes through the stomach. That proverb is there for a reason. Men especially love good food. Don't have the money to go out for dinner on Valentine's Day? Then you can enjoy good food at home. When it comes to food, you don't just eat with your mouth, but also with your eyes.
Sure, you can put something on the table that you wouldn't normally serve, but you can also do it differently. Turn something simple into an eye-catching dish. Put pancake batter in an empty sauce bottle with a nozzle and make heart pancakes instead of simple round pancakes. Or write the name of your lover with the dough (in mirror image!), let it brown a little on a low flame and then throw more batter over it. That way you can make a personalized pancake. An eye-catcher made with love, without costing extra money.
This is just an example. You can also pimp simple mashed potatoes from a package by spraying it on and baking it (cheap pommes duchesse). Or you ensure that you serve the dish very elegantly:in other words, small portions served with love. You can turn a cheap dessert into a real eye-catcher by adding a dollop of whipped cream and serving a biscuit. A little sprinkles on top also do wonders.
Or do something completely different and have a picnic. Because of the weather, you don't have to do that outside, but a picnic can also be very cozy inside the living room. Extra advantage:you can put on wonderfully romantic music. And if you want to do something else afterwards, you can do that too 😉
Why would you necessarily go to the store to pick up something that might be nothing more than a knick-knack? If you want to give something, just make it yourself! With little to no money you can make very nice DIY Valentine gifts. From a love letter in a bottle to a sweet Valentine's card you made yourself. Everything you make yourself is not only cheaper, but also indicates that it is made with love. You invest time and effort in it.
Why limit yourself to one specific day of the year? Make a jar and put 52 or 365 notes in it. On each note, write something nice for your partner. Or you draw a simple heart, your initials or something else fun. Fold the notes and put them in a nicely decorated box or a large glass. Now your partner can take a note from the box or glass every week or every day and you actually pass on a small message of love every day.
Another nice cheap idea for Valentine's Day is to give a voucher. Or even better:a booklet containing a number of vouchers. The vouchers can really be anything and everything. From a wonderful massage to binge-watching together to his or her favorite series. The vouchers can be redeemed at your own discretion. Or you agree that 1 voucher may be handed in per week or per month.
Send the children to the nanny (grandma or grandpa) and provide a romantic setting at home. You can achieve this for very little money. Buy some candles (a must), put on romantic music and if necessary, sprinkle some (fake) rose petals on the floor. Dim the light and you're good to go. You can also hang some more decorations and make them yourself. Think of hearts cut out of cardboard or this nice Valentine's heart made with crepe paper.
Taking a nice forest or beach walk together costs you nothing. In the meantime, you can have a nice (romantic) chat, reminisce about your first dates or just enjoy being together (without children). When you are at home you can enjoy a nice dinner or take a bath together, relax after the walk.
A free Valentine's tip:take a bath together. Make sure you dim the light, put down some candles for a romantic atmosphere. In the bath you can put a nice bath bomb or something that smells nice. Put on some romantic music and you're good to go. Have a nice set ready for when you get out of the bath.
