Who doesn't know the most famous ponies on television? The new My Little Pony film has been in cinemas since this week and Nathalie van Volgmama was there on our behalf during the premiere at Kinepolis in Utrecht. She reports!
Something special happens in this film, the ponies become mermaids in the underwater world for a while. The new movie is more exciting than any previous My Little Pony movie!

When I was a child myself, about 25 years ago, I also played with My Little Pony horses that I had received for my birthday. I then made braids in the mane and invented the adventures myself. What's really cool is that my parents saved a box full of toys from the past for when grandchildren came along. Now my daughter also plays with the horses and she is very sweet with them. My Little Pony horses used to look a bit different, they had somewhat 'fuller shapes' so to speak and now the horses you buy in the store are slim and have the coolest colors.
Google it to see what kind of transformation they've been through in recent years. They were introduced in the 1980s as pastel colored toy ponies. There are movies and series and merchandise has come out. After the comeback of the My Little Pony series 'Friendship is enchanting' in 2010, My Little Pony has become an integral part of many girls, but also boys and adults.
The story of the My Little Pony movie goes like this. Equestria's future is at stake when Storm King suddenly invades Canterlot Castle and threatens to steal the ponies' magic. The beautiful city then falls into a veritable darkness. In an unforgettable adventure, the ponies, together with new friends, embark on an exciting journey that takes them beyond the walls of their familiar world for the first time. Seeking help to save Equestria, the ponies encounter magical mountains, undersea worlds and even a flying pirate ship.
The dress code on the invitation to the premiere is:colorful. This is a big challenge for me because I have a lot of natural tones in my autumn and winter wardrobe. A purple shirt and dark blue pants seem colorful enough to me 😉 . My son wears a green shirt and I buy a My Little Pony dress from Primark for my daughter in advance. Completely in style and that for almost nothing. We arrive on time by train at Utrecht Central Station. The premiere will take place in Kinepolis on the Jaarbeurs Boulevard. Inside there are two My Little Pony horses and a large balloon arch where the children can't stay off of course.
Once inside, the children receive a cutiemark with glitter, My Little Pony ears and they can have their picture taken. As a souvenir we immediately receive a nice Polaroid photo. The children can play games, color or make a necklace. My son really likes My Little Pony on Netflix, but is still unsure whether he will be the only boy at the premiere. Admittedly, the majority of those present are mothers and girls, but he is not the only boy happy.
How much fun is that My Little Pony movie? Well, I'll tell you. We are ready with popcorn and a drink and look at the big screen. After a welcome talk, the film finally gets underway. The recommended age for this film is 6+ and I now understand why.
My toddler gets a little scared of the so-called monsters in the movie and climbs on my lap a few times. The story is also less easy to follow for the little ones. My 7-year-old son does get the whole film along and finds the story very clear. There are quite a few exciting parts that really cause too much tension for under 6's. My 7-year-old has a good sense of humor and we laugh together when one of the ponies wants to make a balloon figure that then deflates.
In addition to the tension, there is also a lot of singing and my daughter thinks that is fantastic! This film is therefore a great tip for autumn holidays if you ask me!
