My girl turned 11 years old. Time for a party. My girl would prefer to invite her whole class. And then to an escape room. Inviting the whole class goes a bit too far for me. I think an escape room children's party is fine, it's fun, it's something different than organizing a party.
How many children can they invite to your house? When we leave, my daughter gets to invite seven children. With her it fits in two cars. But that's where it goes wrong. She can't choose. She can invite more children, but then we stay at home. deal. Together we scour the internet for ideas. She doesn't like tinkering and a movie afternoon is boring. She wants something cool. "Can't you make an escape room mom?" Uh, well no. I can never do that. I think.
When I google for "escape room children's party at home" I come across the website Lokohippo.com. They offer the solution:the Clockdown escape room children's party. An interactive children's party with spies and secret agents. And….. an escape room! That's what we're looking for!
The partygoers must complete a mission using a mobile phone and the Clockdown website. One of the missions to make the mission successful is to escape from the Escape Room.
The use of smartphones, IPad or laptop makes this party completely contemporary and extra exciting. When they are unexpectedly contacted by a secretive agent, it becomes completely cool. That's what the website promises. They can always contact this agent themselves. If an assignment seems to fail, or the children can't figure it out, there is always help. A comforting thought if you are going to lock up ten children.
I buy the extensive script for a very modest price. So the wheel does not have to be reinvented by me. That's a good thing. The script is thick. All information has to land. I see access codes, commands and missions but don't see any connection between all of this yet. What have I got myself into? Can I do this? And most importantly, do those girls like it? They are ten and eleven years old. You don't just tell them a story about spies and secret agents. They are not crazy! My girl wants an escape room children's party so badly that I decide, despite my slight doubts, to go for it.
Now the real preparations can begin. Without my daughter, because for her everything should also remain a surprise. You can buy a clue pack via Lokohippo's site. This contains all the necessities for the escape room and the assignments, hints and codes have already been fully worked out. This saves a lot of work and you can see the connections between the various assignments and codes sooner. The manual also explains step by step how you can do this yourself. Convenience should be man so the clue pack will be added to my shopping cart. I also shop here for a real time bomb to increase the tension a bit later.
There are also accompanying party packages for sale here. This includes invitations, ID cards, notebooks and balloons. Because you don't necessarily have to order everything, you can make it as crazy as you want. This makes the party suitable for every wallet.
I don't buy a standard party package, but go completely crazy with the Hema and the Action. I also shop here for all kinds of decorations and accessories. Everything in the colors black, white, gray and light blue. The colors of the Clockdown website. Online I order nice edible Clockdown logos (wafer) for the profiteroles and mini tompouces.
But then the most important thing. The assignments and escape room itself. Indispensable in all this is a good secret agent. With my dear friend, who takes on the role of secret agent Q, we read through the entire script. We found it most spicy. Together we went through all the codes and assignments until everything was a bit clear. This was a full evening activity!
The morning before the party I cleaned up the escape room. The birthday boy's spacious bedroom was transformed into an escape room. The handle was removed from the inside of the door and placed in a safe. This allowed them to escape, provided they would solve the assignments in time. All clues were carefully hidden. I forwarded photos of the hiding places and hints to my partner in crime, Agent Q. The party could begin.
At the first assignment, the party already seemed to be going wrong. Before the first code was even cracked, they had already unraveled code two. Once they landed on the website and spotted the spies, the party suddenly took a whole different turn. Happy. The girls were completely withdrawn from the story. The spy page had a photo of my dear neighbor. She was also part of the conspiracy. When she “suddenly” rang the bell with an excuse, all hell broke loose. My dear neighbor was mistaken for a real spy and had to leave.
The group started watching her. They didn't trust her. No one was trusted anymore. It was decided that three girls should man the crisis center. Gathering information about the spy gang behind the laptop. The rest went outside in groups to investigate. The license plates of suspicious vehicles were noted. Unsuspecting passersby were questioned for being mistaken as spies and a real neighborhood search was conducted.
Once the girls had discussed all the information from the neighborhood survey, they could start preparing for the escape room. It was all here to do. First everyone pee and then…. BANG... the door shut. They can't get out of here for the time being. They were given an hour to escape.
While enjoying a glass of wine and with my mobile within reach, I nestled in front of the escape room. For almost an hour I lay crooked with laughter. I heard chaos, mild panic, a leader, a smartass, an investigator, and someone watching the bomb. “Hurry up, we only have 58 minutes left” † (and that every four minutes…). My findings were briefed to Agent Q who expertly guided the girls remotely, where necessary.
With 13 minutes and 40 seconds left on the clock, the break was a fact! The revelers were happy and proud! They thought it was super cool. And me too!
During the evening meal, people talked, laughed and thought ahead. One last order followed. This one took some effort, but in the end the girls successfully completed all assignments.
The kids had completed their mission! And this mama's mission too. Operation Clockdown was successful.
