Self-help for primary school children in time of crisis

There's quite a bit of talk about it. About the fear that lives in children around the Corona virus, about how you 'should' deal with it as a parent and what the effects of your behavior are on that of your child. We talk about it quite a lot at home, we watch the news and don't skip a press conference. Yet there is also a lot of room for other things with us and with that our children automatically do self-help in these times of crisis, I think. We enjoy tinkering, watch Netflix series, make music and work in the garden. And of course we also do the necessary work and learning.

Yet you hear a lot about fears in children in times of crisis and when I received a flyer in the mailbox today from school, I thought that some self-help rules for the children are not so wrong. I don't know if you have received the self-help poster in the mail, but here you will at least find all the tips in a row. Thanks to Helpdehelden.com.

Tips for self-help in times of crisis for children

Sing a song

Sing or rap a song while you're washing your hands. When you sing you also breathe well and that is good for your body. It can also be done while cleaning up or when your head is too full.

Celebrate success

Create a success board for yourself and maybe for the whole family. What happened today and why? And what made you happy today?

Tell your story

Talking to others also keeps your head clear. Find someone who will listen to you every time, someone who makes you feel safe and comfortable. Ask if you can call, text or facetime more often to tell us how you feel and what you've been through. Breathe it in?

Know your own motor

We all have something that makes us happy. Exercise, music, sports, rest, nature, crafts or just chilling. What things can you do now to make you happy? Do them at least once a day, even if it's difficult.

Keep smiling

Joking and laughing keep it fun. Can you have some fun at home with your parents or brothers or sisters? Do you have a friend with whom you can have some fun online?

Refuel on time

Compare yourself to a car. A car cannot always drive 100 km per hour, it needs fuel now and then. You too! Try to think about your fuel at a fixed time every day. What do you need to keep it going?

Know your superpower

Everyone has something they are good at. What is your superpower and how can you use this power for yourself and for the people around you? It's all different now. Have you perhaps discovered new superpowers?

Dare to show how you feel

Everyone is scared, angry, sad or happy from time to time. You can certainly show that and you can also ask for help. Who do you ask for help?

Switch and switch back

Don't stay busy with school all day. Agree at home how you will finish your schoolwork. Think of something that suits you, such as exercising, reading a book or going outside. Do you already know what suits you?

Be kind to yourself and others

There is a lot of change for everyone. Being at home a lot, not being able to just visit and maybe you have people around you who are sick. Then it is nice to be extra nice to each other. What can you do for others? And how do you take good care of yourself? What do you notice when you do that?

Do you feel that your children automatically apply this self-help? Or do you have to remove problems and motivate your child to do this?

Stay safe you all xxx
