It is not always easy to come up with fun things for the children during this period. Not that you as a parent are obliged to continuously entertain them, but we all know how it goes when children are bored. Recently I came across a really fun activity for kids:painting rocks and boulders and then hiding them. I'll tell you more about this idea.

A real craze is emerging on the Facebook page Kei Tof. Namely painting stones and then hiding them in a nice place for a finder. The stones are painted by Jan and all and often provided with a zip code on the back. This is to be able to keep finding out where the stone was 'born'.
Precisely because everyone can participate, there is such an enormous diversity of painted stones. Super creative stones that are painted with the dotted technique, for example. Or stones that have a certain color or text message. For example, around Christmas, new stones were painted in Christmas style, isn't it nice? The next time your children say they are bored, imagine this activity. Bet they like to get started and enjoy doing this?
This activity to do with children is doubly fun. You have the painting activity that is already very nice for them to do. But then of course follows the walk to hide the painted stones. So someone else can find them! That is also fun and also educational for children. After all, it is a kind of 'letting go' of something beautiful to put a smile on someone else's face. A nice gesture to teach them!
The whole idea is somewhat reminiscent of a mix of geo-caching and the bear hunt initiated last year to entertain children.
The intention is that you paint the stones and boulders or edit them with marker. In any case, in such a way that the paint and the marker remain in the rain. You can do this as follows:
The acrylic paint of the Xenos works great and is very affordable † Varnishing the painted stone is very easy with a clear coat from aerosol of, for example, finish with a clear lacquer spray from Aldi .
Of course you can do that anywhere, but the best thing is if you place the painted stones in a place where many children come, of course. This can be at a playground, but also in the center or in the forest. Or just somewhere in the neighborhood (preferably not near that one pole where all the dogs piss against, which is a shame).
The idea is that you decide that yourself. One leaves the found stones (and only takes a picture of them, for example) and the other thinks the stone is so beautiful that they take it home. You are free to do that. The idea of this activity is that you and your children are having fun, and that you are making someone else happy. Whether that's with a temporary smile, or if someone takes the stone with them permanently, that's all okay.
Stones that have been painted are popping up all over the Netherlands. There are children who get to work painting, but there are also plenty of adults who start painting stone. It's nice to be mindless and creative, not a bad idea at all. If you look at the photos of the stones on that Facebook group, you will see a lot of variances, super fun.
The Facebook group is growing at an amazing rate and more and more parents and children are painting stones. Maybe it's something for you too?
