Every day, babies all over the world are born prematurely.
This means that they were born before 37 weeks of amenorrhea.
In France, there are no less than 60,000 premature births each year, which represents nearly 7% of live births.
A figure on the rise since the number of premature births has increased by 22% in 15 years !
As part of a study project, Red Méthot, a Canadian photography student, decided to capture the vitality of these children who went through this difficult period at birth.
He himself is the father of 2 children born prematurely. The subject is therefore close to his heart.
“My son was born at 29 weeks and my daughter at 33 weeks,” he explains in an interview.
“These are the kind of photos I would have liked to see when my first child was born. My children have gone through this and now they are grown up”.
Red Méthot knows that all stories about premature babies do not always end well.
One of his photos shows a child whose twin died after their premature birth. But many children born too early grow up well and have a good life!
Now meet many of these adorable children he photographed:

Initially, 10 photos were needed to satisfy the methodology of this student project.
But the public reaction was so positive and Red Méthot enjoyed taking these photos so much that they continued to expand this collection.
Currently, he has taken about fifty photos. You can see them all on his Facebook page and on his website here.
Red Méthot explains that his favorite moment in this project is meeting the models.
“Every time I meet a new person, I discover a new story,” he explains.
I think we all agree that Red Méthot tells great stories through his photographs. By the way, we advise you to read his interview here.
