Love at first sight is a dream and some couples proclaim loud and clear that they knew “from the first sight” that the other was the right person (yes, yes, we think in particular of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle! ). And yet... As romantic as it may seem, love at first sight does not exist. You can feel real emotions from the first look, but it's not love. A study by researchers from the University of Groningen (Netherlands) tried to understand the phenomenon.
What you feel when you see someone for the first time, and what you take for love, is really only a strong physical attraction. Two tests were thus carried out, the first using photos, the second during speed dating. In both cases, participants were asked to indicate the level of attraction they felt and any related feelings, including love at first sight. And there were! It is mostly men who have recognized this feeling. However, during speed dating sessions, it was never reciprocated. Thus, for researchers, “love at first sight” is just a term that we put on the feeling of attraction that we feel, whether on the spot or after reflection, as if to justify it. However, it would seem that believing in love at first sight still has an impact:among the volunteers in the study, some were in a relationship, and among them, those who admitted to having had a crush on their partner were those in whom the passion in the couple was the strongest. Like what…
And you, do you believe in love at first sight?
